I really, really want to give the plot framework in Technoir a try basically you have 6 categories with 6 items. You randomly generate 3 and link these together as part of the 'initial' mystery. Any new clues are linked to these 3.
As the structure grows these clues and the links between them create a critical mass and the whole makes sense.
I have tried it successfully with my kids in a Scooby Doo style game so it should work. It might require some sort of shift for a Cthulu game, perhaps the physical evidence could indicate certain aspects of the horrors faced, such as a damp patch or blood stains.
Time, as ever, has been against me so I've not tested it, perhaps it is something that others may find value in.
Its on my 'to-do!' sometime this year :) In the meantime, we have all learned through failure and insanity.
