I have started a solo RPG experiment, using Dungeon World. I have completed a few sessions, and have just got the presentation of the write-up to a point that I am happy with.
More detail about how I'm approaching the game, the setting and rules: http://shadowoftheflame.blogspot.co.uk/2016/04/meta-introduction.html
And the first session of play: http://shadowoftheflame.blogspot.co.uk/2016/04/the-templar.html
I've just started reading and am wondering how you're choosing GM moves: randomly, thoughtfully, or what? As I'm catching up on your posts, I'm also wondering what you've learned and would/did change for solo play with DW?
ReplyDeleteThanks.
I find that I am playing as DM more than as the PCs, so mostly I'm choosing the GM moves thoughtfully. "Let your moves snowball" is the best advice from the book, encouraging you to build on things that have happened in the story so far, and Dungeon World provides a lot of GMing advice generally and I make use of that.
ReplyDeleteOften, though, I come up with two or three moves that seem appropriate, and in that case I choose randomely. So I guess tl;dr: I choose to narrow the selection then choose randomly between what remains.
Later on I also choose some major story points randomly, usually where there is nothing obvious from the game so far that guides the choice.
