Probabilities and aesthetics question
My question is about what feels more aesthetic to you based on the considerations below.
2d6 + a modifier range of -3 to +3 has the following probability spread (if I did my research correctly):
2d6-3
6-: 83.34%
7-9: 16.64%
10+: 0%
2d6-2
6-: 72.22%
7-9: 25%
10+: 2.78%
(-2 and -3 skew the spread, but -1 to +3 looks more symmetrical)
2d6-1
6-: 58.33%
7-9: 33.33%
10+: 8.34%
2d6+0
6-: 41.66%
7-9: 41.67%
10+: 16,67%
2d6+1
6-: 27.77%
7-9: 44.45%
10+: 27.78%
2d6+2
6-: 16.66%
7-9: 41.67%
10+: 41.67%
2d6+3
6-: 8.33%
7-9: 33.33%
10+: 58.34%
What feels more aesthetic to you? A modifier range of -3 to +3 which has an asymmetrical probability, or an asymmetrical modifier range (-1 to +3) that has a more symmetrical probability spread?
Alto Dizi I've looked at Dungeon World and Simple World. I could not follow it, much too complicated. I also find FATE impossible to understand.
ReplyDeleteNathan V Most familiar with 0e D&D, Five Box D&N and Swords & Wizardry. 3.5e D&D was too much. 5e D&D is better, but still too many options. d20 is just laid out better for me. Easier to follow. I have often thought of stripping all the "junk" out of 5e and using the basic system - But I'm not that ambitious. :)

ReplyDeleteWhat about something like World of Dungeons? That's about as stripped down AW as you get.
If you want stripped down 5e, maybe Microlite 5e?

Alto Dizi I've seen World of Dungeons. I'll give it another look.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know there was a Microlite 5E. Thanks for the link. The ML 5E Character Sheet link leads to a dead end.
