I stumbled across this site earlier this evening, and thought I might pass it along. There seems to be a lot for fantasy sandbox-style gaming, and a metric ton of random tables. GURPS might not be everybody's cup of tea, but it's easy enough to convert to other systems.

Heya all, I wrote a (tentative) framework to help support solo play in a shared world. Nominally based on Stranger Things, which is derived from Trollbabe, but the framework is system agnostic other than some examples of how you'd use the mechanical benefits.

Essentially, it works on the idea that the stuff that happens to your character in your game is your Truth, and the stuff that happens to him in other peoples' games is part of his Legend (which you can choose to incorporate as Truth if you want).
So yes, you too can have a character who people think is eight feet tall and shoots flames from his, er, eyes, but is really quite mild-mannered in reality. All it takes is another author asking you if it's okay and then running a solo involving that character in some way (and letting you know at least the gist of what's happened).

Social/Solo Hybrid Gaming
This is not about the Human Oracle, but rather about play by post games that use the usual Oracles. I've seen some attempts at this in the Mythic Role Playing group over at Yahoo, but that one was a long time ago.
There was also a similar attempt not that long ago by Chris Stieha and a small group of us, though the intent was a bit different (Chris can explain if anyone is curious).
The most recent one I happened to chance upon was this game over at RPGNet by roryb bracebuckle (I think) and another person:

I haven't read much of it yet, but the point is that the idea of playing a semi-social game where, perhaps, most of the time you're playing solo with an Oracle, yet also interacting with a shared world appeals to me.
I imagine a game where events that happen in one player's session could influence the other players' conception of the fictional setting and the direction their own adventures take.
The main issue would probably be making sure everyone is on the same page somehow, and doing it in an effective way.
Anyway, the reason this is an "Admin Announcement" is that I'm considering either adding a sub section here at Lone Wolf for people to link to actual plays of this type and otherwise discuss this type of asynchronous, oracle driven social play.

Hiya everybody!

Since Pythia's now pretty much where I want it to be, with Mythic support and all the generators I could think of, it's past time for me to start focusing on bug hunting and testing.
So I've started a new campaign, posting the resulting logs on my blog. Dunscaith is mostly a beta test for the new dungeon panel but I'm having a blast with it - it started out as a randomly generated megadungeon crawl and now, well, it's all gone quite wrong.
One really nice aspect of logging everything automatically is that you really get to see how the mechanics (or in my case, obliviousness to the mechanics) play out. Gets a little wordy sometimes, though. (Okay, all the time.)
Anyway, I'm not good at google posts so I'll just stop here. If anyone has any feedback, requests, or suggestions I'd love to hear them (both for the campaign and Pythia).

I was inspired by a post that Zachary Kline made about running a pre-published campaign solo. I have never even thought of doing such a thing, so of course I dusted off an old Solo character (Andrei, my vampire) and grabbed a pre-written adventure (Annabelle's Party, for Succubus Club) and ran him through it.

It was...interesting. Obviously, it was most enjoyable when things went sideways and he had to take a long digression away from the primary plot. But, all in all, I think it worked.
The only downside I can think of is that you really do need to "spoil" it to run it properly. I tried to avoid this, by going scene by scene through the adventure, not knowing what was supposed to happen next.
But of course, it's not written as a Solo game--it's meant for a GM. I kept having to take wild guesses to try and follow the link between Scenes, and at the end it seemed to come to a wall. Then I had to go back and actually read the background and a number of things clicked into place.
Has anyone else tried to Solo a published module? Anything from a shot module to something like the Great Pendragon Campaign (which is what Zachary Kline was originally talking about).

i had an idea a couple hours ago for a new category of character type in 4AD campaigns, which i'm tentatively calling them "offsite support classes". In short, they are character classes which A) provide some sort of exotic support to a party, B) take up a slot in the party during adventures, but C) do not necessarily physically join the party on their delves.
i have put together a proof of concept using an Enchanter class which can temporarily (for the duration of a delve) enchant non-magical items owned by the party:

As of this writing, it has not yet been playtested, but the fundamentals "seem sound enough" (but are, of course, subject to change as experience points out what those changes should look like).

Dungeons & Dragons has always been a group activity, likely due to its roots in wargaming community. Co-creator Gary Gygax's early games were so large that he cited groups of 20 or more players at a time. As a hobby, this is perhaps one of the biggest barriers to anyone who wants to play -- finding other people to play with. When Ken St. Andrew launched Tunnels & Trolls through Flying Buffalo Incorporated, he hit on a solution that has been widely mimicked since: the solitaire adventure.

Introducing our player characters
Ariana, a self-taught-mage. A little while ago, a strange sorcerer arrived in the village looking for the mage he'd sensed here. Ariana choose to hide from him in the deep caves, and after a few days she left. With the help of Zara she was able to destroy a chaos spirit emerged from one of the shattered skeletons in the valley.
Zara, the village hero. She earned the title of hero when she drove off a bandit chief who'd tried to take over the village. She's uncomfortable with the adoration and expectations that the village seems to place on her, a fact she hides from everyone except her husband, Jorin the woodsman. ((The generator rolled that she'd confided in the character to the right which turned out to be Jorin, and then the gift from the village was an extravagant wedding. So it seemed likely that they were married)
Finally, Jorin, the woodsman. An orphan, Jorin had a harsher childhood than the other two, which partially accounts for his skills in hunting, tracking and making really great stews. The time he spent in the woods also led to an encounter with a wood spirit or fey being of some sort. It seems friendly, and even made a rare appearance to bless his marriage to Zara.

Spring starts with a newly fledged village 'elder', Aleks, taking a significant portion of the workforce away on a project to clear some of the forest below the village rather than help with the Winter Repairs project. Jorin and Zara go along with them.
In the second week, the forest clearing project hits an unexpected snag as an uprooted tree opens a long forgotten tomb to the skies. Zara and Jorin will be investigating.
Meanwhile in the village, tragedy strikes as the old widow Solya dies of old age and her daughter complicates matters by insisting that she be buried under the mountain rather than via the usual custom of sky burial. Ariana goes along with the grand daughter to both protect her and explore the deep caves.
Finally, melting snow has revealed what appears to be buildings carved into the mountains above the village.

I already shared this in the Mythic Yahoo group, but may worth mentioning here too:
I created an Android app for supporting Mythic games (Fate Chart rolls, Scenes, NPC/Thread list, Idea generator).
