So since today is Valentine's Day, I was wondering about romance in solo RPGs. It seems on the surface a bit of an odd fit, in that you're theoretically playing two or more different parts. If not done carefully it could slip into parody.

Has anybody incorporated a romantic element into your games? How'd it go?

  1. Ironically for my play through of Bliss Stage, the only romantic thing that happened is that a friend of Shun (the PC) becomes his Anchor instead of the usual Anchor due to how he trusts her more.

  2. So far it's mostly been my NPCs that get romantically involved with one another. The Star Trader crew relationships table is mostly the cause. Actually, now that I think of it, that table did get my merchant captain PC together with the ship's broker, but neither of them are overly demonstrative with their affections.

There were some potential relationships in my LotFP campaign, but everyone kept dying.

My DSA game may have a burgeoning romance (with an NPC introduced in the next post), but that will proabably not last very long if at all.

My Runequest game has some strong romance themes, but mostly of the unrequited variety. And it will cause havoc should my PC ever return home.

  3. All of my real life relationships have had elements of solo role-playing games. It always seems like randomize situations seem to throw me into situations I don't really want to be in, many times forcing me to almost role-play stuff.
