I may have to give up and buy a deck next month to test them out. They seem like a cool concept, especially for those days when the Tarot or the Everway deck isn't going to work as well for me.
Jmz Haz That situation (tarot and Everway not working for a night) is basically how my deck-of-character-names (since that is how it started) became a game engine, so I hope they solve that problem for you too :-)
Ivan Vaghi There are other genre decks available (genre neutral, scifi, and more coming), but unfortunately the shipping to the EU is higher than I thought it would be; let me know if you find it insane. I'm collating feedback (since Drivethru is actually good at responding to it!).
See, I thought Drivethru DID have such a facility, but it seems not. Or, if they do, it may not be for cards. However, their card services are new and expanding rapidly, so I hope if enough requests are registered they would consider it!
I have bought the Sci Fi deck (Excellent Quality), but before that, I bought the PDF of the base deck, printed it on card stock and sleeved the cards and they work just fine. That would save the shipping to the EU, and the cards I printed myself look as good as the ones I bought. Of course, I sleeved the Sci Fi deck, so I can mix the two together for my "Flash Gordon" type Pulp games.
Brian Heward The base deck isn't explicitly fantasy; it's meant to be genre neutral and contains examples that run from fantasy, to modern, to scifi. I have specific scifi, horror, and the world-specific Demon Hunters decks out so far, too, with Steampunk and Age of Sail upcoming.
Alex Yari Nope. I have standard HP all-in-ones ( a 7510 and an 8620) and they both take standard card stock that I buy at OfficeMax. I don't have any curling or smearing. I print at the best quality I can, and I print both sides of the cards on separate sheets. It takes longer to cut them out, but they never seem to line up exactly if print two-sided.
I'm a board gamer and sleeve all of my cards, so I had an extra 60 sleeves in stock anyway. The home printed deck ends up slightly thicker than the commercially printed one, but not enough to make a difference when shuffling. I am looking forward to getting the rest of the sets as they come out.
I hope you like them! I've been having a blast with my horror games. Well, perhaps a thrill of terror, rather than a blast....

ReplyDeleteIs it a single deck? do you have a link? do you know if the delivery to EU is expensive?
ReplyDeleteIt's a POD product from drivethrurpg. Not sure how they handle that for European purchase. Here's the link: http://www.drivethrurpg.com/m/product/167552

ReplyDeleteThank you Todd Rokely and Nathan Rockwood ! Just out of curiosity, aren't there any services that print and ship cards in both EU and US?

ReplyDeleteTodd Mauldin are these the same guys?
ReplyDeleteyep!

ReplyDeleteOooh Age of Sail!
ReplyDeleteRight??! :)
ReplyDeletePatrick Bonier do you need a specific kind of printer to use card stock?

Thank you, Patrick! Patrick Bonier
ReplyDeleteThe only thing holding me back from having card decks physically was that, and the cost of getting them from online.
