Woot! Let the new and shiny games begin for #SGAM2018.
My first challenge actually got picked for me, sort of. I tried my hand at #SHOct and got seven pages in but could not finish the story. Lucky for me, this is the first time for me to play Maschine Zeit, the first time to use the GMA Sci-fi deck as an oracle, and the first time that I have tried to play out a horror story solo.
So, I'm going to call it good and continue to play out what happens now that I have done the leg work and I can get down to the business of trying to scare my PC to death. :-)
If anyone is keen on reading part 1, you can find it here.

This is a couple days early, but I wanted to get the Story Seeds instructions up and have a few people look at it and determine if it needs any fine tuning before SGAM starts.

Using SGAM 2017 as an example, let's set things up the same way.
Using SGAM 2017 as an example, let's set things up the same way.
Week One Challenge: New and Shiny, expand your frontiers and play a new game or new genre. Perhaps play something in a new way such as taking an old game and playing it with a completely different solo system.
Week Two Challenge: Hybrid Game, combine solo role playing with another game (such as a board game, a micro game, or a card game.) The idea being that the non-RPG game acts as a driver for the solo gaming experience. The level of mixing is up to the individual. It can be something as surreal as your journey through Candy Land, role playing in the mean streets of Monopoly, mourning your loved ones on the Oregon Trail, or a gritty war journal about what happens to soldiers caught in between the turns of a war game.
Week Three Project: Story Seeds, take three random icons and write of a paragraph or three about the story or scene that they inspire. I'll set up a Google Forms page and some instructions. The goal is to create a free PDF to share with the group so that they have a collection of creative ideas to use.
Week Four: Open, a chance to finish up the challenges, add more Story Seeds, or perhaps create some fun tools. I'll be working on a solo project for NaGaDeMon as an example.
Rule One, have fun. We do this for the love of the game. If you want to do the challenges out of order or you're not inspired by a topic, that's cool. You don't even have to share if that's not your thing. Of course, any format on any platform is acceptable. Heck, if you're playing Sea Dracula and you want to film yourself doing a silly dance, I'd LOVE to see that. :-)
Rule Two, I'm not the boss. I just put on the community organizer hat because I love SGAM, this community, and I want to share my excitement.

Now that the voting is over, I'm eager to start work on the game I'll be playing for #SGAM2018. As always, it's going to take me a bit to get things ready for the actual game play, come November 1st. For now, I need to figure out what game and what genre I want to do for the "New and Shiny" challenge!

So I found a bunch of these the other day and thought they were awesome. It's just people making characters for a game. I don't really play D&D, I think it's probably because it's overwhelming and i really don't have the time to sit down and read everything to understand it. So my questions are:

Does anyone know where I can find more of these type of original characters?
How is there a way to play D&D and other games like it more simple?
As of right now I'm playing Dungeon Crawl, D100, IronSworn, Destiny Quest (book series).
I want to find a way to combine them to make my own type of game to do missions and grown my players and have a depth world all in one. I know it's a perfect dream but that's my goal. Thanks.

Our challenge winners are New & Shiney and Hybrid Game. Our project winner by a landslide is Story Seeds.
I'll write up a more detailed response for Story Seeds since I volunteered in the pitch for that to set up the form and curate the results.

Not sure if the change is live for everyone yet, or if it's being phased in, but the Reddit redesign just kicked in for me and now there's card-based subreddit view and direct-to-Reddit image uploads (I think that second one is new).

In any case, positive changes. Card based view will look familiar to those who enjoyed the Google+ experience.
(Side note, I'm on the solo board over there as u/BandanaRob, and try to be relatively active in the replies.)

I generally dislike interpretation. It generally takes me out of immersion so I try to avoid or minimize it as much as possible. That means I’m potentially missing out on one of the usual techniques for playing solo, though, so I’m taking on the challenge of trying to solve that problem for myself.
These are rules I playtested recently. There isn’t much to them, IMO, but their aim is to try and make interpretation fun for me.

This is the second episode of #SAALT3 The secret of Xyrata. Following the events of the previous episode, the city was attacked by hordes of angry animals. Adventurers are willing to go out into the forest to "find a solution" to the problem.
I thank you again John R. Lehman for allowing me to use his personal dragon to illustrate this short solo adventure.

Sorry to cross-post, but we're looking for solo players to join us in a "progressive play" of Ironsworn RPG for #SGAM2018! Please join us if you're looking for something fun to do during the month of November.
It's a progressive play, meaning each solo player plays a "chapter" of the overarching story, and hands it off to the next player. A play period for each player offers a four-day (real-time) window to post your AP notes. You don't have to detail the story if you don't want to, but AP notes are necessary for the handoff to the next player.
Join us!

I've put a bunch of resources up on the Google Group created to track this Ironsworn game, and we're pretty much ready for November 1, just finishing some of the guidelines for play. If you'd like to hang out with us, jump in early to claim your spot during the event! You can join by clicking the following link, and then clicking the 'Contact Owner...' link (see pic attached). In your response email, simply type the name of the designer of Ironsworn {coughShawncoughTomkincough}, and I'll know it's not spam (and that you have read the rules, so you likely know how to play, or are at least willing to learn on-the-fly)! I'll then send you an invite which will allow you to enter the group properly.

Thanks, everyone!
I spent 3 hours on a map for 1 hour of play. I'm probably not even gonna see this place again in-game, I have no idea why I did it.

Hello everyone!
A little solo scenario to test the rule set I presented last time. I always stay on the same theme: play fast, very fast, but with panache! This time, I changed the #SAALT format to the same format as the one-page dungeons I like. This allows me to do fewer illustrations and focus more on the script. A sequel (and an ending) will be released next week!
Note: I don't know where to post now, there are many everywhere: G+? MeWe? Reddit? Twitter? The Times ? ;)

Multiple rule sets, multiple adventure locations, a ton of extra material. You could game for a LONG time with this stuff.
All for roughly half the price of buying everything individually.

Most members there are not interested in game mechanics or rules. But if I can get some there to take an oracle (any kind) and let an in world character have a stroll through their world I count that as success.
Would you guys be interested in links to possible results, even though they most probably will be in German?

Hi Everyone. Some time ago I seem to recall people talking about a PC Emulator... not a GM Emulator... but a PC Emulator. I can't seem to find that conversation thread and now I'm interested in trying to do something like that. I thought it would be fun to play a solo game as a member of the party with emulated fellow PCs and an emulated GM. It might also be fun to run some emulated PCs through some old adventures I have laying around... just to see how they fare. Does anyone have any resources for this? I remember it being different than NPC emulation; the PC emulator was like out-of-character player personalities and decisions.

However, this time I want a ruleset that makes me run this fast, as LL can be quite "rolley". Which OSR systems would you recommend for this?
Also if none of you has grabbed either of these, do it. Kwantoom specially holds a place in my heart.

So, like many others, I've made a MeWe account and started checking things out over there. We have a group coming together, and having some of the features of several different social networks under one umbrella is neat.
So, like many others, I've made a MeWe account and started checking things out over there. We have a group coming together, and having some of the features of several different social networks under one umbrella is neat.
But unless there's some way to let outsiders view our Solo RPG group there without making a MeWe account, it's fatally flawed. It's a tough sell to ask someone to make yet another social media account before they can even look at the group dynamic and see if it's worth managing another online presence.
I'd like to renew the appeal to migrate to Reddit. As another user said, we've found new blood there before as people discovered solo RPGs for the first time and got directed to G+. Staking a claim on Reddit would make drawing people in from that population even smoother.
Support or dissent welcome in the comments. Help me understand the pros and cons of moving to Reddit.
Edit: Convenient link for those unfamiliar with the existing subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/Solo_Roleplaying/

I was listening to the "One Shot" podcast the other day and they were playing a game called: "Fu**! It's Dracula!" which is a 200 Word RPG. I had never heard of 200 Word RPGs, so I went to One Shot website and found the link to the 200 Word RPG Challenge website. Holy Shamoley! There are the winners and finalists to the challenge for every year since 2015, which comes out to around 200 games. If you go there, the Dracula one is the 7th one down in the right hand column of this year's finalists. I downloaded it and I realized that it would be easy enought to reskin it for just about any type of game you want. Another free resource most of us, and possibly inspiration for the game designers out there.

I'm watching this solo game using Silent Legions. At one point, she uses a General Oracle (after the 29:00 mark). I was wondering where she got the General Oracle from, and where I can get it from?

If you've wanted a physical copy of The Clay That Woke for your collection now is the time.
I'm moving soon across the country, and my little 3' x 4' storage locker is jammed with copies of The Clay That Woke, mailing and packaging supplies, and printing supplies for other projects, and I need to seriously reduce it. Please help me out. I'm putting physical copies of The Clay That Woke on sale at a super reduced price of $14.99.
If I can sell 150 copies in the next ten or twelve days it would cut my storage space of books and mailing supplies by almost half and the money would really help with the (shockingly expensive) moving costs.
Thank you. Please reshare wherever you talk with gamers who might be interested.

I read some comments earlier about a 200 word limit game design challenge and got inspired. Since the website kept muttering about choosing a theme, I thought I'd write it up anyway and post it here.

Hi fellow solo role-players. I haven't posted in a while but I am still doing a lot of gaming. I don't post every game I play which brings me to this topic I want to discuss with you:
Hi fellow solo role-players. I haven't posted in a while but I am still doing a lot of gaming. I don't post every game I play which brings me to this topic I want to discuss with you:
Solo rpg is by default a solo and if you will private activity. I mean that is the great thing about solo rpg, right? No one to please but yourself. You can play the type of campaign you want, can play the character you want, can use and change systems at will etc. That is the whole point of it.
But one thing I have noticed in my gaming is that I chronicle my games differently, meaning more detailed and with more structure, if I know that this is an actual play that I want to post and share. So thanks to the internet and social media an activity that is supposed to be a private and solo activity becomes a public activity again (even if it is by choice).
So in a sense solo rpg becomes public or shared rpg again. In my case I sometimes find myself documenting some things primarily for the audience rather than for me since for me they are clear in my head and a few cruel notes would suffice. This is by no means a bad thing. I actually enjoy reading my more structured actual plays more after a few days or weeks than my crude private ones. The elaborate ones conjure up a more vivid mental picture if the memory of the session is not fresh anymore. However, in my case "public solo rpg" obviously moves at a slower pace, since the writing takes longer (also, not a bad thing, I am not on a clock).
But I am curious and ask the community:
-Have you noticed the same thing when it comes to your gaming?
-Do you also have "private games" or do you post all the games you play?
-Do you play with the audience in mind?
To give you an idea of what I am talking about, I will do a strip for you and share a private Star Wars game which was never intended to be shared. If you compare this actual play to other APs I have posted you will without a doubt notice the difference and see what I was talking about. There are just enough notes in there to keep me focused during the session and not let my mind wander.
