Hello!
The comments at another post raised my curiosity about my fellow soloists. So here is a little question for you all: How do you actually play your solo rpgs? Do you have your rules on your lap top and type things into a text file, does your smart phone do the job? Any special tricks/aspects that mark your gaming?
Personally, I need to have things physical. While I have a few RPG rule books I bought as physical copies, I also have quite a number of PDF books (like Libre, Mythic, or THW's titles). Since I am mostly playing while riding trains/trams or maybe sitting in the park, I have started printing my rule books at A6 and use post card binders (before I found them, I used A4). For recording things, I use note books size A6 or sometimes sheets in an A4 binder and a push action pencil. My dice accompany me in their leather dice cup, of course :) :) :)
So, what does your playing setup look like?
Yours,
Deathworks
Hello!
ReplyDeleteThank you for all those interesting answers. It seems as if there are as many variations as members of the group (^_^;;
Putting dice in a transparent box - that's a neat idea. It would make playing on the tram a lot easier.

All on the computer for me. I'll typically have a whole bunch of windows open, including:
ReplyDelete1 or 2 windows for pdf files of the game rules and setting books.
1 for wikipedia, for looking up historical or scientific details, depending on what I'm doing.
1 for fantasynamegenerators.com.
1 for my home-made software that handles dice rolling and Mythic chart look-ups.
1-3 word docs for my main game log, including separate windows for character sheets and world building details, so I don't have to scroll as much.
Usually 1 window for Mythic Creature Crafter. I know the Mythic system well enough that I don't really have to refer to the main Mythic book anymore, and the event charts are incorporated into my program. But I still use the pdf for new creatures.
Usually one image file for a world map if I have one.
Sometimes a bitmap editor with crudely drawn zones to track positioning in a fight scene. (That's pretty rare though, since I don't tend to do really complex fights.)
Ken Hubbard Actually that sounds very similar to how I play - with the exception of the creature crafter. Also I rarely run maps as I tend to play a theatre of the mind game.
