I'm sure many are familiar with Scarlet Heroes by Sine Nomine Pub. But on page 118 the Urban Adventures section begins and I am amazed.

You can create a whole campaign based upon a nefarious plot by rolling the dice on the table. It will send you from one encounter to another.

And it is a contest between the player and the villain with rules to see who wins based upon victories in the challenges/encounters.

Has anyone else seen other frameworks like this presented in other books?

  1. Sophia Brandt  I do also enjoy Yoon-Suin. Good recommendation.

Alex Yari Now that you mention doom track - it does remind me of Arkham Horrors/Eldritch Horror. I agree there needs to be more of that.

  2. The other product that incorporates a doom track or clock in an urban RPG setting is "blades in the dark." I think it's a pretty cool mechanic, and it would bolt on to The VP system mentioned well if you wanted to add or remove complexity.

Sine Nomine stands pretty tall in this regard. The victory point system doesn't have a ton of equals. The closest to it I can think of is at donjon.bin.sh but the results there are wildly random and require editing to make sense.

  3. Good catch, Mike Overbo. I totally forgot about the clock mechanic in BITD.
