Hello! I picked up Mythic years ago, poked at it some, but all my attempts at solo play devolved into novel writing. I want to give solo play another whirl, and it's clear y'all have collected a TON of resources.

Hello!  I picked up Mythic years ago, poked at it some, but all my attempts at solo play devolved into novel writing.  I want to give solo play another whirl, and it's clear y'all have collected a TON of resources.

Any suggestions on where a once-again newbie should start?

  1. lino pang, I think so, assuming by Chaos Factor you mean the ability to inject surprises into a session of play.

I think what I'm reaching for is some sort of weighted system of randomized input so that I don't have to rely so heavily on my own native ability to invent patterns where none exist.  That is, I'd like my Chaos Factor to create patterns rather than just be completely random.

  2. Brian Murphy Really? I find a lot of surprise in Mythic due to Random Events (any double equal to or under Chaos Factor during a scene), & Interrupted/Altered Scenes (d10 under Chaos Factor at beginning of scene).

Are you using those? I also set the CF at 5 usually at the beginning of the game as recommended, so things get moving pretty quickly. What are you setting CF at? Does it go up much? I usually don't let it go much below 5 (4-3 maybe) & much higher than 7-8.

  3. Brian Murphy I wrote this a while ago: http://dieheart.net/getting-started-solo/
    Perhaps it helps?
Basically, you can just jut down notes if you like: bullet points, flow charts, etc. I write stuff in full sentences because I post them as APs on my blog.
Check out the other blogs that do APs in the link so you can see how other people do it and watch that video for an idea.
Brian, I can totally relate to you as I think journaling the solo rpg experience is one of the biggest hurdles. I got stuck in it the first few times I tried.
