So I've been tinkering off & on trying to get the "Monster of the Week" style monster hunting solo off the ground that I'd mentioned previously. Mostly just reading & thinking, figuring out angle of approach, etc.

So I've been tinkering off & on trying to get the "Monster of the Week" style monster hunting solo off the ground that I'd mentioned previously. Mostly just reading & thinking, figuring out angle of approach, etc.

One of my biggest hurdles I think has been system. I really wanted to run "Cryptworld" (aka "Chill") as I love the "beastiary" & the approach, but the system itself is leaving me cold. Feels TOO old school, cumbersome & opaque for solo (for me).

I'm finding I have little patience to learn new systems anymore TBH.

After shopping around a little, I think I've 99% settled on Mini Six (open version of West End's old D6 system). Mini Six is the "lite" version of Open D6. (Think closer to the "Ghostbusters" end of the scale, while Open D6 would be closer the the "Star Wars" end).

A light enough system for solo, but with more granularity than, say, "Mythic" (which was under consideration). A system I'm familiar with, very easy to improvise & adapt with, make things up on the fly for & transparent enough to create new material for, & small stat blocks.

Also, Pay What You Want & lots of reference material out there on the web was a big selling point.

There's actually even a "Buffy" D6, & an"X-Files"-y style D6 game already out there that has a lot of the stuff I wanted.

Between those, what comes w/ Mini 6, & the ease of making stuff up, I should be set.

Anyone using any of the D6 systems for solo? Or for this style of campaign?

  1. I used to play D6 Star Wars solitaire and thought it worked well. 2nd edition moreso than first; the extra skill choices helped.

  2. I never considered Mini-Six or D6 system for solo, but that's an interesting idea. I think it could be made to work and work well.
For solo I just assumed Tunnels and Trolls was the easiest option, at least for fantasy. Given that the huge library of solitaire dungeons for it.
What I've been looking for are ways to solitaire the 0-level funnels for DCC, so that I can give my players some homework to get to 1st level before they get to play together.
