So I've been reading some David Weber (military scifi), lately, and am interested in a solo game in a similar setting—a big sector of space maybe on the frontier of a larger empire.

I'm curious how much prep you guys do for your solo campaigns? I have Traveller here, and while I could run through sector creation it might rapidly devolve into doing world building rather than gaming/storytelling.
Has anybody run this kind of space opera stuff before? Did ou sketch things out in brush strokes and fill in details as needed?

  1. Thanks Todd Zircher, but I do enjoy a little madness every once in a while. :) Mapping out a star system does inspire one to creativity anyway, so it ends up being an overall enjoyable experience. I haven't revisited my GURPS in a while though - not with any serious intentions of solo-ing. Hmm... [skitters off to comb through file folders]

  2. Zachary Kline , here was the best idea I ever had for effortless world-building: http://aleaiactandaest.blogspot.co.uk/2014/08/the-accidental-world-builder.html

I have another one in the works, but i haven't posted about it yet. Hopefully this weekend...
