I just got my copy of Mage 20th Anniversary edition. I'd backed it mostly because some friends I trust have told me it's an awesome setting. I'm largely unfamiliar with it or the White Wolf games in general.
I wonder if anybody's ever done anything with these solo? Is it different from the more action-oriented games like D&D, Traveller, etc? I am curious how well the system would work. Any first hand experiences?
Zach Best This is great, thanks. :) I'm guessing that since I've never played a White Wolf game before it'll take a bit more effort to get the "feel" right. I'm more interested in Mage than, say, Vampire, I think, mostly because it seems to focus a bit less on personal horror.
ReplyDeleteI don't suppose you have any tips for detailing those NPCs? Do you use UNE for inspiration, or mostly go with your gut, so to speak? It definitely seems potentially like a lot of fun, but also daunting. :)
White Wolf games are quite good for solo rpg, if you like that kind of stuff, because they have well developed settings and background. Creating interesting PCs and NPCs is easier.
ReplyDeleteZachary Kline Yeah I use UNE usually to find their "forward vector" and I usually do 2-3 BOLD runs to get a bit of history for them. I leave plenty open to interpretation (like not detailing what every UNE motivation means). This is an NPC. They have secrets and surprises I, as a player don't want to know about just yet.
ReplyDeleteOf all the old World of Darkness games, I must admit I am least familiar with Mage. I know it's largely Technocracy trying to control. Hopefully the book gives lots of good ideas on the theme of a game.
