[I wasn't sure where to post this, so if this is the wrong section, apologies.]

I'm currently trying to put together a solid, relatively generic set of Idea Generators for use with solo roleplaying, and I'm looking for good examples to work off of. I already have the Action and Subject tables from Mythic, and I was planning on somehow incorporating the list of Dramatic Situations. What are other good lists or wordbanks to draw from? Does anyone else have IGs they particularly like?

  1. Rory's Story Cubes should never be underestimated. They are available as physical dice or in app form.

  2. I second Zach Best 's talk about Rory's Story Cubes. I would also say have a look at Story Forge Cards.

  3. I'll toss in Zero Dice which follow the same gist as Story Cubes but uses the Game Icon library (same as Mark's Adventure Glyphs.)  Zero-Dice does have an extra feature that makes it easier to use for play for post games.  (Say you're doing your solo project on a forum.)

If you can find it Animalball's Instant Game is an excellent source for lists.

  4. I think that cards with evocative art can be very good. Unfortunately, most decks are esoteric or fantasy based which limits their usefulness if you like genres that don't quite fit that.

I'd love to see some cyberpunk or western themed cards.

One thing I've been considering is collecting my own images from the net and finding a way of randomly choosing them.

It also helps when you can combine a keyword with an image.

  5. Alex, Zero Dice is basically a random image tool, I believe all the javascript is visible if you view the source.  You're more than welcome to copy and mangle it for you own use.  :-)

  6. Ah, I hadn't realized that. I could steal the code to present other images I've collected. Though, I'm not sure if I could share it since some of the images might be copyrighted (like this awesome art: http://jsjacobs.scripts.mit.edu/evenjoshknows/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/ChibaBySourGasm.jpg).

  7. If you do decide to make it available, you could turn it into a back scratching service for the artists.  Include links back to their pages so that they get proper credits and interested viewers can find more of the same for a given image.  It might be more work to create that.  But, it would be good karma too.  :-)
