Would anyone here be willing to help me. I'm looking into redoing my Your Guide to Playing Alone and once redone would like people to see what you like/dislike/want to add (or remove).

  8. I did a quick read through, and I like what I see so far. Seems specially appropriate for people not familiar with solo roleplaying. 

    I would like to see an expansion on exactly one roleplays their character solo, per this paragraph:

    "Characters are the core of solo roleplaying (even more so than social). So get deeper. Move away from the nuts and bolts of the character sheet. Look deeper at your character, look behind the stats, and roleplay them"

    This kind of ties into my recent post asking people to describe what essential element(s) set roleplaying apart from other activities when it comes to them.

  9. I'm super-early in my read-through, but I spotted this in para1 under Know Roleplaying. The parenthetical at the end of the paragraph is extraneous and fairly "adult." You might re-phrase to a more PG or G rating; or drop it altogether.

    I'll put a document together with everything I find. For this, do you want a proper proof-read/edit; or just some ideas on what I thought could be altered to make it easier to read and digest?

  11. After reading your guide, I think that you are missing section about one solo roleplaying tool that is very important, at least for me. I like to call it The Driver. It is something that will keep you focused on the story, that will prevent you for getting stacked in the middle of the game.
    For me, Mythic has only vague guidelines to drive the game, and that is its biggest flaw. When you play only Mythic, it may happen that your story will not reach satisfying conclusion.

    My favorite drivers are 9Qs for linear experience or Microscope RPG used as described on Risus Monkey blog here:

    when I want something more non-linear.

    Basically, when I try to explain solo roleplaying to people who are interested, I am telling them that they will need:

    1. RPG rules of choice for encounter resolution.
    2. The Driver (9Qs, Microscope RPG,  etc) to keep their games focused
    3. Solo engine with Oracle (Mythic with Fate chart or other) to simulate GM
    4. Random idea generator (Rory's Story cubes, Mythic event meaning table, etc) to further simulate GM
    5. Help tools like UNE, Instant Game, etc (you should mention at least these two in your guide, since they are free on the net and very useful) to help them insert more randomness into their game.
