Does anyone have an adventure log or sheet you use in solo adventures? Or simply, how do you record your sessions?

It's been almost 5 months since my last game, and as much as I've tried to get a group together again, there's just been too much schedule conflict to do anything.

It's been almost 5 months since my last game, and as much as I've tried to get a group together again, there's just been too much schedule conflict to do anything.

Enter solo play

So, I've decided that, since I simply cannot get a group together, I might as well play with by myself. I've printed out a copy of the Epic GM Emulator, with the "chapter system" attached for story structure, and I'm using the tables from Instant Game as my idea generator. I didn't pick a game system... but surprisingly, that really isn't an issue.

...

So far, I'm in a graveyard with a "deviant" undertaker. The undertaker has some hired muscle, too, but they're all being held captive by a demon. The undertaker is trying to negotiate their release. Our goal is to get to ruins, and retrieve a mysterious spiritual artifact that will somehow help defeat the demon.

...

I'm still struggling with the concept of solo play, but I seem to have had some really good rolls for creating a supernatural adventure. I'm not really sure what to do next, but I'm having fun trying to figure all of this out.

This hunch might be completely wrong, but I have a feeling that this is very relevant to solo roleplaying, since we have to wear so many hats in our games.

I need to digest it more, but if anyone reads it and has any thoughts, I'd love to know what you think.

Possibilities that come to mind off the top of my head for keeping rules to a minimum: Dungeon World Steadings, The Fate Fractal, or just stating the faction up like a character with FU...

Anyway, tl;dr, - Please share your experiences formalizing faction/organization mechanics in a Solo RPG!

I think some folks here like WoD stuff. There are currently two sales of Vampire The Masquerade going on:

One is the revised edition on Humble Bundle, which currently has 20 different pdfs including the core book (with more to come).

The second sale is for Vampire 20th Anniversary edition at dtrpg, and it has the core book + companion, and 3 other supplements.

I'm not too familiar with either line, beyond what I learned from the GURPS version of VtM, but I do love a good bargain. Can anyone give me a quick rundown of these editions? What they love and/or hate?

The Isle of Darastrix Part 3: Killing Time

The Isle of Darastrix Part 3: Killing Time

Nothing too exciting happened in this session. The trio made it to Yeoweth Skjall without too much trouble around sundown. They passed a temple to Tiamat as they entered and Ssedt, feeling more than a little angry at the goddess for letting one of her children wipe out their mercenary group, contemplated relieving himself on the side of the temple. However after looking around and seeing too many witnesses going in and out of the temple, his sister Zeffira convinced him it would be better to hold it.

Without going into too much detail, they pretty much spent the next few hours wandering around town trying to find a decent inn to spend the night. There were three in town. One was too scuzzy to want to stay at, another was much more high class and expensive but didn't have any rooms available, and the other was just a little better than the first but they didn't have any rooms either.

Getting fed up with the whole situation, they decided to rough it for one more night. Rather than waste more rations, Ssedt decided to do a little hunting. He found a couple of constrictor snakes but failed to get the jump on them. They took off with one disappearing into the grass. Ssedt put an arrow in the other one, managing to piss it off enough that it turned on him and bit the ever living crap out of him. Ssedt finished it off with his swords, spotted the other one and put a couple of arrows into it before it could get away.

He rolled well harvesting the snakes and managed to get two good snake skins and enough meat to feed the party for the night. Zeffira had found a nice camping spot by a stream and rather than sleep they decided to spend the night just chatting and assessing their situation. In the morning they would use what money they had to try to get some better equipment, maybe selling off those scimitars and snake skins, and hopefully they could set up some long-term lodging at one of the inns. Then they would spend the rest of their time trying to find mercenary work.
Is Mythic still the go-to for solo RPGing, or are there other interesting frameworks out there now?

just written an enemy ai for dungeon crawling which will help determine what the enemy does , this is relatively system independent

just written an enemy ai for dungeon crawling which will help determine what the enemy does , this is relatively system independent

Here you go see what you think

universal skirmish AI
each figure has a level value and a size value and if it is considered intelligent
level is the level of the figure in game terms ( you might have to fudge this depending on the game )
size is the number of 1” by 1” squares it occupies on the table ( based on 28mm figures )
sequence of play
play using the standard game rules then at the end of the turn determine noise for each of your figures

during the game a player character will generate and remove noise every turn , this noise value will be used to determine what how the enemy will respond to that figure , if more than one figure has the same noise then the closest figure will be the target of that enemy

the noise values are
doing nothin -1
in cover -1
shooting 1
insight of any enemy 1
walking 2
running 3
fighting 4
charging 5

calculate each figure on your sides awareness rating for the turn
to see if a figure is visible add its size to its awareness value and multiply by 2

so a 1“ X 1” base character who is fighting in melee will have a awareness value of 12 and will be noticed up to 12 squares/inches
if a figure is out of sight the awareness is halved for only those figures that cannot see this figure

this means that an enemy is aware of this figure and will determine what it will do with its reaction
we use these values to determine what this figure will do

to find the enemies reaction
each enemy will be stated as a shooter , support or melee type
take the figure level factor and size as a base number
and modify by the following
is this figure wounded -1
each enemy that can be seen by this figure -1
each full move from the nearest visible friendly figure -1

so a level 4 figure on a large base ( 2” X 2” ) will have a base value of 16
take off and negative points

if this value of the figure is greater than the nearest threat the figure will act as its primary goal , each point lower than the target moves the option 1 stage to the right

an unintelligent character will use its primary function if its value is more than half that of the enemy

characters will always try to
a shooter type will try to do these actions in this order
shoot / support / move towards / move away / melee

a support type will try to do these actions in this order
support / shoot / melee / move towards / move away

a melee type will try to do these actions in this order
melee / move towards / support / shoot / move away

Shoot = move into range an shoot , if in range aim and shoot
Support = using the figures best ability , this may mean joining a combat with a friend or buffing a friendly figure ( buffing is always primary
Move towards = take a full move to get closer to a weaker enemy
Melee = move towards nearest enemy and engage in combat
Move away = Move away from as many enemies as possible and take cover
Finally got around to starting a map for my Actual Play solo game. As I pick places and create names I'll add them to this map.

Alternate FU Dice System

Alternate FU Dice System

I'm going to try some solo RP for the first time this weekend using a Gamemaster's Apprentice Deck for random inputs, and the often recommended FU as my resolution system.

But like many before me, I couldn't just let the dice mechanic sit as-is. The jump from 50% chance to 75% (or 25%) just seemed a little too potent for only having a net advantage of 1 on a roll.

Instead, I'll be working with a d10 + or - net advantages/disadvantages as a modifier on the following scale:

No and: 1-
No: 2-3
No but: 4-5
Yes but: 6-7
Yes: 8-9
Yes and: 10+

The original mechanic (best/worst of a d6 pool) technically leaves all answers on the table at all times, but after 2 net shifts, some of those answers get so unlikely that they may as well not be around at all.

Though this method takes some of the original system's extremely unlikely results off the table entirely, it keeps the Advantage -> "Yes and" & Disadvantage -> "No and" rates from blasting into the stratosphere so quickly. In either system, a net advantage of four makes any kind of "No" practically impossible, but with a d10, the more modest "Yes" answers should still stay entertainingly frequent.

Thoughts? Recommendations? I know I only have myself to please with this, but counterpoints from the experienced crowd are welcome.

The Isle of Darastrix, Part 2: Out of The Frying Pan and Into The Woods

The Isle of Darastrix, Part 2: Out of The Frying Pan and Into The Woods

Our trio of adventurers managed to escape the flaming fortress without any more burns. The barrels of oil in the other room sure enough made a nice fireball and accelerated the conflagration but the room was far enough away from the entrance that it didn't really pose any danger to the party.

With nothing else keeping them there, the party ran through the midnight storm towards a nearby small wooded area to the southwest. Everyone was in a bad way and they definitely needed a long rest. Sleeping out in the rain was going to be difficult and would have required me to roll constitution saves on everyone to make sure the slept through it. So I had Ssedt use his survival skills to try to build a camouflaged lean-to so everyone would be out of the rain and get advantage to sleeping stealthily.

Well Ssedt wasn't exactly on his A-game and wasted an hour gathering useless branches and shrubbery that made a fairly obvious lean-to fall apart shortly after it was completed. An irritated Zeffira decided she would give it a try. Hers was much more stable and camouflaged, but unfortunately the time it took her to put it gave some random bandits, attracted by the flaming fortress, time to ambush them.

They weren't stealthy enough to get the jump on the party but they did position themselves pretty well; two pairs in two separate copses of trees. Ssedt handled one pair and Krieger and Zeffira took on the other two. Krieger being uncomfortably close to falling unconscious took to the trees and used magic missiles to wear them down while Zeffira rushed up just short of melee range and let loose her frost breath.

Unfortunately it wasn't enough to take them both down and Zeffira fell to their crossbow bolts the next round. Ssedt and Krieger managed to finish them off pretty easily, though, but not before Zeffira failed a death save.

Ssedt and Krieger dragged her back to the lean-to and they had to wait four hours before she regained consciousness. The camouflaged lean-to turned out to be a life saver as they all managed to roll really well on their stealth checks.

They awoke around noon and the storm finally died down to a light drizzle. Remembering that they forgot to check the bodies for any loot, Ssedt and Krieger went to go see what they had on them only to find that the bodies were gone. Looking around he discovered two pairs of goblin tracks along with signs of the bodies being dragged leading to the northeast.

The party agreed that it probably wasn't worth going after them for a few scimitars and a fistful of silver, so they decided to trek east towards the town of Yoweth Skjall where they hoped to find food, rest, and perhaps someone looking to hire some adventurous types to do an odd job for them.

So they spent the rest of the day traveling without incident, reaching the outskirts just before sunset.

I never soli before how do you do it? I'm itching to try them out and use the hârnmaster/world

First Report from The Isle of Darastrix...

First Report from The Isle of Darastrix...

Well work continues on fluffing out the lore and character backgrounds, but I've been really feeling the itch to just start playing so I decided to set up a little starter dungeon for my characters as a sort of test run. One of my character backgrounds is just a few loose ideas floating around in my head but the other two are pretty fleshed out.

So for just a little bit of backstory on how everyone got to where they are, a human sorcerer named Krieger and two dragonborn rangers named Ssedt and Zeffira were all part of the same mercenary group. Their group had fallen on hard times and Scaeda, the dragon queen, had become dissatisfied with their annual tributes so she decided to make an example out of them by wiping almost all of them out.

The three managed to escape but were left homeless and destitute so they're stuck wandering the countryside in the rain when they come across an abandoned fortress. So they managed to get inside to get out of the rain and that's pretty much where the adventure begins.

The entrance room is kind of a mess, with busted furniture in the corners and tattered, moldy carpet on the floor. The first thing I have them do is use the busted furniture to start a camp fire in the middle of the room so they could dry off. Then I had my most skilled character, Ssedt, start going around to all the doors and looking around.

I should note that every time I have a character perform some kind of action I roll what I call a danger die, which in this case is a d6. If I roll a 6 then that means that what they're doing is placing them in a dangerous situation. This generally results in triggering a trap or having monsters appear but could cause other things depending on the situation. I try to use common sense but sometimes I'll query the dice to keep things interesting. Also I have a table that's letting me generate the rooms semi-randomly.

Anyway, Ssedt checks out the first room that has the door already opened, finds a bunch of crates and a couple of barrels. Doesn't find anything useful in the crates but the barrels were full of flammable oil, probably used to fend of sieges. He moves on to the next room which was a dining room with more busted up furniture.

There's two more doors in the main room so he checks them out. Doesn't sense any danger from the other side so he opens the first door and finds a large prison room with several cells lining the walls. They go in and Krieger finds some manacles that he figures he could use later. They find another door further into the room.

Ssedt's been doing pretty good searching for traps and actually finds one on this door. He disarms it pretty easily but discovers that it's locked and while he's proficient in thieves tools, nobody is carrying any. So he whips out his crowbar and pries it open, somehow managing to not attract anything with the noise.

The door opens and they find yet another large prison. This one has some more busted up furniture along one of the walls. Ssedt grabs his torch and goes to check it out. He rolls really good on his investigation and finds...GOBLINS! Yep, three of them leap out and we have a nice little combat encounter. Now Ssedt is pretty stealthy but these guys have dark vision so I don't even bother rolling when they see his torchlight coming right up to them.

It's a tougher fight than I expected. Krieger gets a firebolt off but misses and a goblin rushes up and takes him down in one hit. Ssedt and Zeffira manage to take them out and Krieger somehow makes two death saving throws before he can get stabilized. Krieger came to after only one hour and they decided to rest for another so he got most of his health back.

Given the difficulty of that encounter I decided to have them head back to the entrance and get a long rest in so they could be back to full strength before venturing further. Of course backtracking through two rooms after leaving them alone for a couple of hours meant I needed to roll my danger die a couple more times. I rolled a 6 on the last one.

Given the circumstances I wasn't quite sure having more goblins waiting for them would have been likely, so I rolled to see if it was more goblins or something else. Well it wasn't goblins so I started trying to figure out what might be wrong.

Then I looked at my map and saw the campfire in the middle of the room...the campfire that had been unattended for over two hours...sitting on rotting carpet...in a room full of busted furniture. I rolled and yes, the entire room was ablaze and the fortress was filling up with smoke.

Well, I saw only one option. They could all get to and through the front door in one turn but they would have to go through the fire. I had them all roll constitution saves. Krieger and Zeffira failed. They made it out but Krieger took enough damage to bring him down to one hitpoint and Zeffira is now at half. And of course there's those two barrels of flammable oil sitting in the next room.

So that's where I left off. Three half dead adventurers running away in the rain, a goblin infested fortress behind them going up in flames just moments away from a fairly sizable explosion.

Who says lonewolfing isn't fun!?

At last, the final chapter in the ongoing tale, The Adventures of Glendal Lorg, Scarlet Hero, 1.9, is presented for your amusement. Will Glendal survive the Fort of the Unholy Mound, or die a gruesome death at the hands of some fiendish creature? Come, read and find out. (Hint, it's not nearly that exciting, but I did finally write up the last session I played.)

Here are two more charts - random objects and participants to add onto the Story Engine that I posted a few weeks ago and is shown at the bottom of the post. I haven't tested it out yet, but it is based somewhat on ideas from a few other similar charts.

I left two blanks open on the participants chart to either optionally stick in two additional ideas or to reuse one or two of the prior participants - if they are considered more likely to be involved.

Has anyone used Mythic GME paired with another RPG for solo play? Did you just pick your favorite system in general, or did you pick one based on the needs of solo play?

Has anyone used Mythic GME paired with another RPG for solo play? Did you just pick your favorite system in general, or did you pick one based on the needs of solo play?

Edit: Mostly asking because I did character generation using Shadow of the Demon Lord, and my gut reaction to my finished sheet was that it seems like way more detail than I want to track. Searching for the right level of detail.

Does anyone else keep a file for unintentionallly comic results they get from random generators?

I find that Donjon produces a lot less nonsense than some, but it still managed to give me the following:

I've been slowly getting stuff prepped for my D&D 5e campaign. It's taking longer than I expected but I wanted to have a fairly fleshed out world before I started so I don't have to make too much up on the fly.

I've been slowly getting stuff prepped for my D&D 5e campaign. It's taking longer than I expected but I wanted to have a fairly fleshed out world before I started so I don't have to make too much up on the fly.

I started with a map last week and now I've moved to the history of the island, which is called Darastrix. I also have an updated map and three character sheets ready to go. Normally I would try to go with just one character but with D&D I've been finding it difficult to make a single character survivable. I think three might be the sweet spot where I have a survivable party that won't overwhelm me with stats and details.

You can also view the updated map and a few bullet points for some of the cities here: http://geoshora.proboards.com/thread/27/land-description-map

What does your #Solo #Roleplaying setup look like?

I was just reading Solosaurus's Solo Gaming Set Up post...
http://solosaurus.blogspot.co.uk/2011/09/solo-gaming-set-up.html

And it made me wonder, What does your Solo Roleplaying setup look like? We see plenty of pics and art of group roleplaying games, but I don't think I've seen any similar Solo Roleplaying like the image below.

What do you have to hand? All analogue, or all electronic, do you prefer online virtual dice rollers, or the physical dice in your hand? Paper Notepads or Tablets / Laptops?

I've been feeling the itch to do some solo roleplaying D&D style lately so I thought I'd start by brushing up on my map making. I'm thinking something along the lines of an island nation of dragonborn ruled over by a green dragon. I haven't fleshed out any of the details but there's probably going to be a spire city atop the tallest mountain where the dragon and most of the dragonborn reside.

ALONe's Beta has finally been updated!

It took me a while to sort out how I wanted to incorporate the feedback I'd gotten (large amounts of it from folks here--thank you!), but I think this is an improvement...

The book is still just a PDF with no real formatting, but the content is hopefully better and more streamlined!

If anyone winds up playing around with it, whether you played the original or not, I'd love to hear your feedback! I'm hoping to move on to finishing this up, polishing it, and getting art and layout in here over the course of the next year.

Hey guys, I was thinking of something...

Should I begin spinning off and making blogs for solo wargaming and solo board gaming? So there'd be Solo Wargaming Voyages and Solo Board Voyages? Or should I just keep them in the same blog of Solo RPG Voyages?
